T & C's

NetGap websites are undertaken on a 'hobby' basis. Although this keeps costs down it does have some draw backs when compared to using a company specifically set up to create sites with full time employees. In order to save confusion and to outline what to expect I have created the following terms & conditions.

Browser Compatibility

NetGap sites are coded to display on IE6 (or current release), this is a free browser which has a very large market share. Most sites will also display correctly on other browsers (Firefox, Opera). Unfortunately there are dozens of different browsers all interpreting W3C standards in their own way, the result of these differences can mean your website will not display perfectly in all browsers. NetGap simply does not have the resources to test your site on every browser on every machine and operating system. Every effort to 'put right' any anomalies pointed out will be made.

Search Engine Ranking

Although NetGap will submit your site to a few of the major search engines (Google, Yahoo) no guarantee of positioning in search results can be guaranteed. A page of suggestions as to how YOU can improve your search rankings is planned for this site shortly. Beware of services claiming to be able to boost your rankings. In the past there have been numerous techniques to artificially boost rankings, whereas short term this is a good thing, in the long term when the search engine programmers work out what has been done your rankings may be harmed.

Email Accounts

1&1 servers allow for email addresses, NetGap can set up accounts for you or in the case of owning your own server you could set them up yourself.
Eg. if you own domain www.mysite.co.uk email accounts like: info@mysite.co.uk will be free for your own use

Payment & Quotes

No advanced payment shall be required for the web site, although should you require domain registration and a holding page you may be charged for these upfront. (NetGap does not profit from this and simply passes on the cost from 1&1 the hosting company normally used by NetGap).
You are welcome to set up hosting of your own. For typical NetGap Engine server requirements click here

Site Updates

Most content can be changed by yourself however not all. Should changes be required from NetGap they *may* be chargeable. As a rule of thumb anything over 1 hours work may incure a small fee which will be quoted before you are liable.
Changes usually take only a few days.

NetGap Makes Accessible Sites

NetGap makes every effort to ensure your site is accessible. The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) extends into the internet world. NetGap sites are built using techniques that promote disabled access such as variable font sizes, meaningful tags and table-less layouts. Extensive use of css allows content to remain in context for screen readers used by the blind.

Content Management System

All NetGap sites are built onto a custom made templating system. This will allow you to make content changes yourself should this be required. The editing system was designed initially for development use, some training will be required before you can make changes yourself. Very few NetGap customers bother to update content themselves as NetGap offers small updates free of charge. Spare development time is used to improve & upgrade the Content Management System.
